Funk / Soul / R&B / Disco
There’s something special about funk and soul music. As a suburban-grown 90s white boy, I was raised on a steady diet of varied rock music. Classic, n’ roll, alternative, indie—with an occasional side of hip hop. But just over 10 years ago, funk and soul unseated rock as the heavy-weight champions of my musical tastes.
While obviously different genres, the lines between funk, soul, r&b, and disco are often blurry. But they all have that special energy, emotion, and groove that set them apart from other sounds. And while they certainly don’t monopolize these vibes, they seem to have combined the three into a perfect recipe.
Over the past decade+, I've slowly ammassed a respectable funk and soul music collection. There are enough funky jams in my megamix to last you about a week if we exclude your doctor-recommended 8 hours of sleep ;)
